James McAvoy Details Magazine

I just got back from my trip to London to see James McAvoy in the play, Three Days of Rain. So I thought it was about time I put together a hub with some of my favorite photos of James McAvoy.

If this Scottish actors looks familiar, you've likely seen him in either Atonement or the action film, Wanted. Atonement could be considered his breakthrough role, but McAvoy has been working steadily for years and has an excellent resume of theatre and tv work in Britian, as well as about a half dozen or so movies.

James McAvoy on DVD

Atonement (Widescreen Edition)

State of Play
The American movie is based on this fantastic 5 1/2 hour BBC miniseries and James McAvoy is terrific as a young and very keen freelance reporter.

List Price: $34.98
Becoming Jane
Amazon Price: $4.48
List Price: $14.99
Wanted (Two-Disc Special Edition)

List Price: $19.98
The Last King of Scotland (Widescreen Edition)
Forest Whitaker gets top billing in this great movie, but James McAvoy's character is actually the protagonist. Well worth watching.

James McAvoy in Movies and TV

Funnily enough, Atonement is the first place I saw James and yet it is my least favorite thing to watch him in. The acting and production is top notch and it isn't much wonder that it was nominated for so many awards in 2008 (Oscars, Baftas, Golden Globes, etc.), but unfortunately the story itself is completely depressing and has the most dreadful ending of any movie I've ever watched.

Much more fun is James McAvoy's performance in the original BBC mini-series, State of Play; his American action film debut in Wanted (with Angelina Jolie) and his sexy turn as Jane Austen's secret love in Becoming Jane. I also highly recommend The Last King of Scotland for another great story and performance.

Other work includes the British tv series, Shameless and the films Starter for 10, Rory O'Shea was Here, Penelope (with Christina Ricci) and Shakespeare Retold. In the latter, James stars in an interpretation of MacBeth set in a restaurant kitchen. Quite fun!

But now let's get to the important part, right? Pictures! Here are some of my favorite photos of James McAvoy. All of the photos are clickable so you can see the larger version.

One of the things I really like about McAvoy is that he can go from very average looking to smouldering in about two heartbeats. He has no right to be hot at all, and yet somehow, he totally is.

The photos to the right are from an amazing play called Three Days of Rain by Richard Greenberg. I just got back from seeing the production in London. James McAvoy was quite incredible in it and I was very fortunate to get to see it twice.

Probably my favorite photo of McAvoy's character, Robbie, in Atonement.

A trip to London - you are SO lucky. I really like this guy. Just finished watching the original "State of Play" (Netflix has it) - he was great!

Nice article too!

Caesar, State of Play is probably my favorite of everything James has done. The entire cast is excellent, but he's quite exceptional to watch.

Hard to choose--loved his acting in Atonement & Rory, loved his bum in King of Scotland, loved his moves in Wanted, haven't seen Starter yet--getting it from Netflix soon! Can't wait! :)
