Bacon 101 - Delicious & Easy Bacon Recipes

Of all the foods that are a bit "sinful", bacon is probably my favorite. If I ate it every day I'd never get bored with it. In fact, I have to keep myself from eating it every day. I love a bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast, and that's always with the yolk too!

I've been trying to expand my repertoire a bit beyond just breakfast though, so here's some great bacon recipes for my fellow bacon lovers to try. And remember, if something tastes good on its own... it is bound to taste better with bacon!

Bacon Recipes

Let's start off with some traditional favorites like bacon-wrapped scallops and then move on to some more fanciful bacon recipes. If you'd like a little dessert with your bacon, be sure to check out my bacon desserts hub

While I love seafood, scallops have never been my favorite so I usually avoid them. For a long time, I even avoided the bacon-wrapped scallops just because I dislike scallops so much I assumed that even bacon couldn't save them.

I was so wrong. Bacon totally saves the scallop!

The basics are easy enough: wrap bacon around scallop, whack a toothpick in it to hold it together and stick it under the broiler until it is cooked through. Usually takes 10 to 15 minutes and you need to turn it once.

So here's a few recipes to spice it up.

Chicken and turkey can both be improved by bacon. I find turkey far more flavorful than chicken anyway, so turkey and bacon, mmmm, yum.

If you love bacon, you should definitely try and get your hands on some gourmet or artisan bacon. It is nothing like the standard packaged fare you'll find at your local supermarket. Far tastier and flavorful than Oscar Meyer, it also generally doesn't shrink nearly as much and you'll have some nice thick slices for your BLT sandwich or any recipes you care to make.

If you're lucky enough to have a butcher's shop or an ethnic deli in your neighborhood, that is also a GREAT place to buy bacon. I find Russian bacon to be delicious and will drive out of my way to the Russian delicatessen to buy it.

Also, Whole Foods has a couple of nice bacons at their meats counter and I would think you might find at least one or two decent bacon choices at Trader Joe's, though it's been awhile since I've been to one.

For the truly bacon obsessed, the best place to congregate with your fellow bacon lovers is online. In addition to the blogs that are just about bacon, there's all sorts of other foodie and cooking blogs that are sure to talk about bacon and offer recipes on a regular basis.
